Last weekend I stopped in Hancock Fabrics while spending down a few Christmas gift cards. I was searching for faux fur to recover a curved leg bench I found, but instead happened upon a bolt of beautiful drapery fabric. It was on clearance, and the total yardage for curtains cost me only $15. I decided to take a gamble on the fabric for the master bedroom.
The grey background of the fabric has a beautiful brushed texture that adds dimension to the window. The curtains look a lot more luxurious than their $15 price tag.
I sewed them simply with tab tops and straight edge seams.

I prefer my curtains to pool on the floor, but after a lively Twitter conversation I realized not everyone agrees with me. Which do you prefer – pooling, exact length, or a little short?

The curtains are a big improvement over the plain black cotton curtains we’ve had for years. This was one fabric gamble that paid off!

Love the curtains, Sara! As with everything, you have done pooling curtains just right. I know I said I hate them on Twitter, but yours look awesome!

Can I ask you a question? What type of curtains do you have in your living room? Are you a pooler all the way around or just a bedroom pooler? I need some curtain assistance

We have two sets in the living room – one that I made and one that we bought. Both of them touch the floor exactly, no pooling. I wish they pooled – maybe my next sets will.
The cons of pooling that people have told me are: dirt (and dog hair) gets trapped in the fabric and you can step/slip on the pooled part if you’re not careful.
But I like the look a lot, I think some small pooling is classic.

Yes, I hear you. I think valances might be your best bet. Or short curtains…just window length but can be opened or closed.
Or how about fabric blinds? http://pinterest.com/pin/203013895673525966/

Yes I’d rather fabric blinds or short curtains. The valances are fine but then I need blinds underneath … And well that’s a whole other story :-/ LOL
