Most of the time when I’m traveling for work my life rotates around my laptop and the endless search for edible and relatively healthy food. This trip I was able to add in a patch of awesome: meeting up with Alex and Wendy of Old Town Home.
After finishing up a training in Alexandria I walked King Street from end to end. I immediately understood why Alex and Wendy love their town so much. It’s awesome. The streets are cute and historic, the stores eclectic.

King Street ends at the waterfront – a small marina on the Potomac River.

Right on the waterfront is a historic torpedo factory that is now filled with fine artists. I struck up a great photography conversation with Jim Steele, and ended up chatting for almost an hour with him in his studio. His inspirational advice? Always have a vision before starting. As he says, you won’t know when you’ve got there if you don’t know where you’re going.

Then it was blogger meetup time! Wendy and Alex brought me to Fish Market. Much as I suspected, Alex and Wendy are awesome! They are down to earth, passionate, fun people with a talent for blogging about their home renovations. We chatted about our blogs, our real lives, and the desire to meet other bloggers that we chat with all the time on Twitter. (We call this as-yet-imaginary meetup “Whistler and Donuts.”)

{and anĀ awesome outtake}
I am so appreciative that Wendy and Alex took the time to meet up and share their beautiful town with me. I hope to see you guys again soon!
Have you had the opportunity to meet up with other bloggers (if you are one yourself), and/or visit Old Town Alexandria?

Great meeting you in person over the weekend! We had a lot of fun and are very glad we were able to make it work. Thanks for freeing some time from your work to make it all happen. Next time you’re in town we have a list of healthier places we can eat.
Your post pretty much nailed Old Town’s King Street and all it has to offer. It’s a great main street and you hit a lot of the best spots. The photo you have of the store with the cocktail glasses, called The Hour, is actually owned and run by a neighbor of ours and is a very interesting and cool place.
We’re planning on doing a little walking tour photo blog post as spring approaches that should give a little more of residential old town that we know and love but is typically far less enjoyable during the cold winter months.
We’ll see you for our next W&D planning session.
