The business trip I’m on spans two weeks. My best (and oldest) friend drove from Rhode Island to DC with her husband and baby daughter to spend the weekend with me. How lucky am I?
We spent time on the National Mall and then headed to the Spy Museum (no pictures allowed!).

After a lunch at Gordon Biersch we braved the crowds at the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History.

We ate dinner at home followed by amazing desserts from a neighborhood bakery. Yum.

On Sunday morning we took a quick trip to the National Aquarium to tucker out the baby before their long drive back to Rhode Island. The National Aquarium is…tiny. And not super awesome. But it did the trick of wearing out an energetic little munchkin.

After my friends said their goodbyes and got on the road, I gathered up my remaining energy and headed to the Smithsonian of American History. It had amazing relics of our American past:

Julia Child’s kitchen:

And a beautiful dress for a beautiful lady (First Lady Michelle Obama’s 2009 inauguration gown):
I really enjoy DC. I come here often enough to feel comfortable in the city while still seeing it with fresh eyes on each visit. Where should I go next time, DC aficionados?

Eastern Market on a weekend morning, housemade poptarts at Ted’s Bulletin, and my favorite restaurant – Teaism (I like the one in Penn Quarter, just down the street from the Portrait Gallery/Museum of American Art which has a lovely courtyard)…oh how I miss living in DC.

I love everything about this post! Next time – more beers, less fish. I have always wanted to see the inside of the archives and library of congress, I hear the architecture is gorgeous.

The Library of Congress was a stop I remember liking a lot when we were there in 200?.

I definitely have to check that out next time. That and the National Archives.

It looks like you’re having so much fun! (Also- we have a couple Gordon Biersch restaurants around here and they are so good!)

It was a great time but I can’t lie – I’m happy to be home.
