My day job requires me to be on a lot of conference calls. There are days where I’m booked straight through – from 9 to 5 – on the phone. I find it’s easier to focus when my hands have something to do, and it’s best if my hands don’t find their way to a keyboard where I can check Twitter, or my email, or Adventure Journal. I decided to try my hand at creating a little DIY brain teaser.
A few weeks ago I picked up a pack of small wooden blocks from Joann’s.
I arranged them in a 12 piece block and taped around the edge with FrogTape.
Using FrogTape Delicate Surface, I created a tree pattern by cutting the tape into narrow strips.
With bright blue paint (Pantone’s Blithe) I covered the top surface of the blocks.
With the paint still wet, I removed my tree tape, creating a silhouette in which the natural wood shone through.
I repeated on the back using bright orange paint, to make my puzzle double sided.
I let both sides dry completely and sealed with a clear top coat. I figured these block would get a lot of use from my antsy hands!
The puzzle is surprisingly hard to put together. You’d think, since I painted the thing, that it’d be a snap. But no. I also enjoy creating random patterns using both painted sides of the blocks – endless entertainment!
Happy multi-tasking, my fellow worker bees!
