Last October, when I shared the State of the Office, things didn’t look much different from the day we moved in. The office was neither functional nor beautiful.
Today, it’s a different story.
The office plays double duty as my craft room/project space and 9-5 work desk. I work from home so it’s important for the room to be functional for both purposes.
After painting, I built a DIY modern desk and added shelving to my craft closet. Using 12 foot by 8 inch pine boards I installed three shelves above the desk. The project table is an old planting stand we’ve had for years, topped with a painted piece of half inch MDF.
In the office our long-wandering bookcase finally has found a permanent home. Paired with the Aegean slipper chair it creates a small reading nook (and a place for me to sit during long conference calls).
This room will never be picture perfect because there will always be a project for the house in the works. Right now I’m working on refinishing a stack of wooden frames – you can see them under the desk and next to the bookcase.
The brightness of the office, paired with it’s multitude of useful surfaces and storage spaces, make for an inspiring room to both work and create.
