Happy New Year! December went by in a whirlwind of travel, skiing, and the holidays. Mike and I stayed in Idaho this year for the holiday season, and it was lovely. We carved out some time to relax, some time to go exploring, and some time to enjoy the spectacular festivities that happen around here for Christmas.
Now that the New Year is upon us, my mind has turned to thoughts on 2014. For the past few months I’ve been ruminating on the items I buy (or create) and bring into my life. There are so many things that live in House Bella: clothing, sport equipment, home decor, food, books, electronics…the list could go on for quite some time. I consider myself on the minimalist side of purchasing/acquiring, and even so, I occasionally find myself wondering where all this stuff came from.
I’ve made a resolution for 2014 and beyond: bring home quality. I’m challenging myself to save up for the timeless cashmere sweater instead of ten sweaters from Old Navy. To create those items for my home that are much more than the sum of their parts. To do more with fewer quality items, and resist those things which won’t stand the test of time.
This resolution will be a challenge of my willpower – who doesn’t love a $5 blouse from Target? But in the end I hope it fills my house and wardrobe only with items that I love, that I will want to use for the long term, and that will last.
To get the year started right, Mike and I invested in a stunning Pendleton Woolen Mills blanket. We found a timeless pattern that we hope will last our lifetime.
I have many other plans and resolutions for 2014, many running related! What do you hope 2014 will look like?
